So what do you people do, anyway?
We enjoy each others' company! We get together at a member's house to
chat, play games and just socialize. We gather at a local restaurant to
eat and talk (in equal amounts). Most local groups
also put on what's called an RG (short for Regional Gathering) and
Mensans from all over will spend a fun weekend in a hotel with 100 or
so of their best
friends, just doing what comes naturally. CFM's RG usually occurs in
January
every year. Our 2001 RG was attended by Mensans from as far away as
Oregon and
Minnesota.
Mensans also do more serious things, like sponsor scholarships for
local students, give blood to our
local blood banks, clean up local roads, and donate books to libraries.
How can I join Mensa?
Easy. You can either provide prior evidence of test results to the
national office
(and if you meet the requirements, join right away), or take the Mensa
Entrance Exam locally. You'll
typically take the test in a library or other quiet facility, under the
supervision of a Mensa-approved
proctor. The results are sent to the national office and graded, and
you'll be notified of the results
after a few weeks. If you meet the requirements, you will also be
invited to join.
To see the requirements for prior evidence submission, you can go to
the national Mensa website's section on prior
evidence.
I'm a new member. How do I get involved?
That's even easier! Just show up at an event. All you have to do is
tell someone there that you're a
new member and you'll be treated like royalty. We're always looking
forward to meeting our newest friends.
If you're willing to take an active role in the group, you'll be even
more welcome!
What if I just want to get my newsletters and
that's it?
No problem. We call those members "coffee table Mensans" and they're
just as valued as our active members.
If you just want to enjoy our publications, so be it (but you're really
missing out on a lot of fun).
